Hello Anchors,
I guess you all have missed our commentary on issues since the last post. Well today we are going to be giving you a little gist about our dear dance-hall queen Cynthia Morgan A.k.A Madrina.
Now if you are familiar with the Nigerian music industry, you would know that it is very very easy for stars to rise, sink and remain in the sunken place. We've seen Artistes go from super stars to upcoming Artistes and never be able return to their spotlight. Artistes such as Blackface, Style plus and recently P-Square (i just can't understand the deal with those boys). Cynthia Morgan, the queen who gave us hits like "German Juice", Bubble Bup" ," Simati Niya", "I'm Taken" etc... all of a sudden went mute on us. At first we all thought she was in the studio working up some mad banger but turns out Madrina had started down the road to become an upcoming Artiste.

Now many will say Cynthia Morgan is big, i personally think if she does one good song right now she is back to her spot because no one has really taken the place. They are very few women in the industry with her vibe and flow and this has made her very unique and somewhat an indisputable, reputable champion in her genre. Like the stories of many Artistes that have gone from fame to upcoming, Cynthia seems to have had a problem with her record label/record deal. According to some comments she made during a recent interview that was done via Instagram live, the Artiste revealed that she was sick for about 6 months to 1 year. She lost all her resources, became depressed and had to relocate to Benin. She said her old record label did not treat her well and that she does not receive royalties from her past work, all her royalties go to Jude Okoye of the P-square brothers. She also stated that she decided to start her own record label and has been trying to get back on her feet. People have since rallied around her and funds have been going into her gofundme account to help bring back the Cynthia Morgan Brand. Now as all stories have two or more sides, her former manager Joy Tongo (JTon) has released an official statement ( it's quite long guys, so i'll summarize) on the whole saga.
In summary, she states that she worked tirelessly to help grow the Cynthia Morgan brand. She convinced Jude Okoye to sign Cynthia Morgan, hired image managers to help create and push Cynthia Morgan's image and also stated that not once did Cynthia complain about the image that was being put out about her or that she felt pressured at anytime.

She mentioned that Cynthia lived with her for almost 3 years and that it was Jude Okoye who paid for her to secure an apartment, gave her a range rover car and also money to buy a land for her mother in Benin (upon Cynthia's request). JTon also claims to have details of the transactions made at the time. She states that when Cynthia Morgan seemed to be growing out of control she stepped aside and stopped being her manager. She said she was no longer going to tolerate the rumors and lies surrounding their split.

Interestingly the news of the sad fall of Cynthia Morgan hit the airwaves some days back and different Artistes have responded. In his usual manner, O.B.O has asked Cynthia Morgan to reach out to him and that he already has a song they can work on. ( Davido- the helper of the helpless A.K.A Destiny Helper )
That being said, here is what we think; Cynthia and the record label are both right and wrong. They both have their point of views and what they believe, but somewhere along the line both parties may have gone about their dealings the wrong way. We all know that most Artistes these days sign to record labels, and after they "blow" they all want to leave , some even before their contract expires. Artistes need to learn to read contracts, research on the track records of the people they are about to hire to manage them and the record labels as well. Record labels and managers need to do better also. In the end it boils down to the individuals and their understanding, sadly most Nigerians have coconut heads...we no dey hear word (LOL) and in a matter of months, another Artiste will have a similar issue and the cycle will continue.
